In Texas, a marriage license is only valid for 30 days from its purchase date. It would be a good idea to plan a day, during the week about two weeks before your wedding, where both you and your fiance can take off work and wait in line to apply for your license.

#1: Both you and your fiance must provide proof of age and identity with a valid Texas driver's license, valid Texas I.D, military I.D., passport, or any certificate of license.
#2: You are both required to provide a Social Security card or proof of Social Security number.
#3: The fee in Hays county is $72, CASH ONLY. Check around the area, because other counties charge less.
#4: The legal age to get a marriage license without parental consent in Texas is 18.
#5: No blood test required.
#6: If either you or your fiance has been recently divorced, the state requires a 30-day waiting period from the date of the final divorce decree, unless waived by the court. Female applicants are required to submit a certified copy of final decree showing their restored maiden name if different from current identification.
#7: The license is goof for 30 days from the purchase date. However, there is a 72-hour waiting period from the time the ceremony can be performed. Active duty military personnel are exempt.
#8: Applicants between the ages of 14-17 must be accompanied by one parents, to sign legal consent. A minor must have a certified copy of birth certificate, photo I.D. and proof of Social Security. If parents are divorced, the parent granted custody must submit a certified copy of their divorce decree in order to sign consent.
