Happy Valentine's Day or S.A.D (singles awareness day)!

Here's a few facts you might not have known:

♡ In A.D. 496, Pope Gelasius I declared Feb. 14 as Valentine’s Day.
♡ Esther Howland, a native of Massachusetts, is given credit for selling the first mass-produced valentine cards in the 1840s.
♡ Approximately 141 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second-most-popular card-sending holiday after Christmas.
♡ More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold.
♡ In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Denmark and Italy.

Valentine's Day may have evolved from a story about St.  Valentine, a cleric during the Roman Empire.
According to the legend, during the reign of  Claudius II in A.D. 270, Valentine performed numerous secret wedding ceremonies against the emperor’s orders. When his actions were discovered, Valentine was sentenced to death on Feb. 14. While in jail he wrote a love note to the jailer’s daughter, signing it, “From your Valentine.”

A Texas Soiree: Kyle Chamber Annual Awards Gala

The Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce held a sold out Texas Soiree at the Texas Old Town event center in Kyle, Texas on January 29, 2011. The event, held yearly, recognizes the achievements and accomplishments of the members of the Kyle Chamber of Commerce as it celebrated on the continued success of the community.

Winners for the Kyle Chamber Annual Awards Gala were:
2010 Volunteer of the Year: Vince Collier Encompass Lending Group
2010 Organization of the Year: Hope and Love 4 Kids
2010 Ambassador of the Year: Vince Collier, Encompass Lending Group
2010 Business Person of the Year: Vince Collier, Encompass Lending Group
2010 Small Business of the Year: Vince Collier, Encompass Lending Group
2010 Large Business of the Year: Seton Medical Center Hays

“All nominees have demonstrated exceptional service and community leadership. The winners were selected as the best of the best in the Kyle area,” said Ray Hernandez, Executive Director, Kyle Chamber of Commerce. "They are part of the reason that the Kyle, Texas area continues to be the hub of economic development growth in the corridor."

In addition to the awards presentation, the black tie soiree featured live music by the Jonathan Moody Band, dinner and a live and silent auction that served as a fundraiser for the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce.
